Gateway Apartments spreads love and care to the elderly ‘Knitting for the Elderly 2021’

    2021-12-17

Gateway Apartments’ annual social initiative, “Knitting for the Elderly”, has been running for the past 10 years during the Christmas period to show their care for senior citizens. In response to the Coronavirus Disease (COVID-19) pandemic, Volunteers of Residents and Associate Members of the Gateway Apartments have found alternative ways to help those in need with their passion and resilience in the face of adversity. Total 105 hand-made Scarves and Goodies Bag (containing surgical masks, hand sanitizer, vacuum cup and snacks) are being distributed directly to Salvation Army Tai Po Centre and Wah Fu Centre for Senior Citizens by the Salvation Army staff.

“In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, elderly homes have introduced restrictions on visitors to minimize the risk of contracting and spreading of the Covid-19 to their residents. Nevertheless, we would like to show our care by sending the hand-knitted scarves to each elderly member to make them feel being concerned and deliver positive energy to them during the current pandemic. Each scarf was disinfected by UVC LED light before packing. In addition to the hand-knitted scarves, we also provide personal protective supplies including facemasks and hand sanitizer to help protecting them going through this difficult time. Our action was much appreciated by the elderly and we wish to have the opportunity to visit them in person soon.” Mr. Ronald Loges, General Manager of Gateway Apartments added.
